Are you a self-starter who doesn’t need to be told what to do? Are you a creative soul who likes a challenge and likes to work with your hands? If so, freelancing might be for you. Freelancing is different from your traditional 9-5 job. A lot of people start freelancing with the intention of doing it part-time or as an additional income stream. Perhaps you’ve heard of people who do freelance design and digital marketing from home but don’t know how this might work for them.

 Decide what you want to do.

The first step in deciding whether or not freelance work is right for you is finding out what your interests are and what kind of work you’re good at. Here are some questions that can help:

Do your research on the company, its products and services, and its clients. You’ll need to know what they’re selling and why they need help in order to get them to hire you.

Read up on the industry before entering it for the first time. Learning about an industry is essential for freelancers who are new to it.

Upwork – Another popular service which offers similar features to Freelancer, but also gives you access to a larger pool of potential clients so you have more opportunities on offer when bidding on projects.

Elance – A much smaller marketplace than the two above, Elance gives users access to more niche markets and allows them to post their own projects for others to bid on and complete if they choose so.

Freelancer Marketplace – A relatively new marketplace with a focus on niche markets, this site allows users to post their own projects for others to bid on and complete if they choose so

 Determine how you’ll get paid.

Once you’ve determined that freelancing is a good fit for your skills and experience, you’ll need to determine how you’ll get paid.

There are four main ways:

1. You can charge clients a flat fee for each project, or you can charge per hour or per task. This option is the most common and easiest to understand, but it’s also the least lucrative.

2. You can charge by the project with a percentage of sales (30 percent or so). This method is more complicated than paying by the hour or by the task, but it provides a steady stream of income with no upfront costs.

3. You can work as an employee for one company, providing services to other companies on their behalf (i.e., outsourcing). This method is best suited for people who want to keep their day job while working on projects they find personally rewarding, such as writing articles for blogs or creating graphics for social media accounts.

You may want to start small because it’s easier to get started than if you try to take on a huge project right off the bat!

Build a website. Your site should include links back to your social media profiles so people can see what else you do besides freelance graphic design work — maybe you also write articles or blog posts? It should also include links back to any other sites where people can find out more about you or your services (like LinkedIn).

Create an email list so people can keep in touch with updates or when new projects come available. Email marketing is one of my favorite ways of staying in touch with clients because I know they prefer it over text messages or phone calls!

Market yourself.

The first step to starting freelancing is to market yourself. If you want to be an expert in your field and have clients coming to you, then you have to get out there and make yourself known. You can do this by joining groups or forums where people who work in your industry hang out, or even by creating a blog of your own.

This will make it easier for potential clients to find you and contact you through social media. It also gives them a place where they can ask questions about your services and get answers from you directly.
